Our spirited bunch of peepers are seven weeks old. It’ll be several more long, dark months before we see an egg from anyone, but it’s been an amazing journey so far.

Inspired by my time on Quillisascut Farm learning about all things culinary farming, it was solidified– I needed to get a flock of my own. I came home to a dedicated partner, reading my mind from across the state, constructing the frame of a hen house in our front yard.

The next morning, 9/15, we purchased chickies of our own at our local farm store because (surprise!) they had peeps arriving in September this year.

They came home in a tiny box, packed tightly beside one another…

And just one day later, I’m fairly sure we couldn’t have squeezed them back into that same box.

Every few days, they change– the way they look, the status of their incoming feathers, the way they act with each other, with me.

I joke about waking up in the morning and not being able to tell who is who simply because of the incredibly fast rate that they are changing.

I’m so happy to have them, and I’m excited for what the future holds!

Enjoy the following little photo series of chickie baby life for the first seven weeks.
